Common Sense Weight Loss Tips – It’s Not Rocket Science!

When it comes to weight loss, we have likely heard it all. From cabbage soup diets to the eat all you want miracle pill. Truth is, some diets, supplements, and weight loss pills can be helpful aids , but there will never be a miracle pill.

Diet and exercise will always be key issues when dealing your health and weight- there is just no way around it. It’s simple really. If we eat more calories than our bodies burn, then it will be stored for later use in the form of fat.

With this in mind, the first thing we need to do for weight loss is to access where we went wrong. What are we doing to be over weight? We are likely over eating, or eating too many foods that are loaded with just too many calories. This is the time to be honest about your eating habits and make some real changes.

We all usually have some kind of craving such as fried foods, sweets, salts, and carbs. Weaning off of these can be difficult, as the brain will become addicted to food just as it does any other habit that is not good for us. Try to find where the regular culprits are in your eating habits and replace that craving with a healthier version. Such as swapping out fried chicken for baked chicken, and fat free yogurt instead of cheesecake.

If the problem is overeating, then you are likely eating to many high calorie foods. Eat nutrient packed foods such as more salads with tons of ingredients to make it interesting, just keep the dressing on the light side. There are plenty of low calorie foods to fill up on when the munchies get a hold of you.

You may also need to access how much you exercise in relation to diet. How much are you burning? Are you active and in a job that is on your feet six to eight hours a day, or are you putting in some OT at your office job and coming back home feeling cramped and stiff? If you’re not accustomed to exercise or reasonably out of shape then it’s not rocket science to know that you need exercise.

However, you will need to get back in shape gradually as your body will need to become re-accustomed to exercise. There can be no shorter route to failure than overdoing it and damaging a tendon. Half an hour of aerobic exercise is an ideal starting point if you are already relatively fit and active. What qualifies as aerobic exercise is anything that causes your heart to beat slightly faster than its metabolic resting rate and the need for increased but steady breaths of oxygen.

Remember that everyone is different, so what exercises we begin with that qualify as aerobics will vary. For some people, simply swimming or brisk walking will be all that is needed. For someone already very active they will likely need to begin jogging for the same effect. Eventually as your body becomes stronger, exercise will need to be increased to continue losing weight.
