Acne-How To Get Rid Of Acne Naturally
Man I Hate Acne…Don’t You?
If you’re like most people in this world you are now, or have in the past, dealt with the embarrassing and unpleasant symptoms of acne! So how do you get rid of acne? Is there a natural acne cure? Unfortunately there is no “cure” for acne, no pill you can take to make it go away, no acne panacea.
Want to gain control of your acne symptoms? Get informed, learn about acne, what causes it and what you can do to get rid of it. There’s a wealth of information online, as well as a ton of products touted to be the “cure” you’re looking for. Beware of the salesman-keep an open mind-experiment with the different techniques offered and use what works for you, live a healthy lifestyle, and remember you are unique, and what works for one person may not work for all.
If your acne is severe, affecting the deeper layers of skin, causing scaring, or not responding to your treatments, I suggest you see a Dermatologist and follow his advice.
So lets get an understanding of what acne is, what causes it, and what you can do about it.
What is acne?
Acne is a very common skin disease characterized by pimples (whiteheads) and blackheads on the face, chest, and back. The sebaceous glands become clogged with oil, dead skin, and bacteria resulting in inflammation and infection. In more severe cases there will be deeper lumps (cysts and nodules) that can be quite painful and cause scaring of the skin.
Over 85% of people in the 12-25 age group or 17 million people in the US suffer with this affliction. There is no cure but with the proper care and treatment you can control your outbreaks.
What Causes Acne?
Acne is thought to be caused by excess hormones during your teenage years, and genetics can play a role as well. Improper living habits (diet, vitamin deficiencies, lack of sleep, ect) can cause outbreaks. Always keep in mind acne is not your fault, nothing you did or did not do caused your acne!
Is There A Cure For Acne?
Unfortunately there is no real cure for acne. You can however control your outbreaks. To control your acne you will need to maintain a consistent preventative treatment program that includes proper diet, hygiene, nutritional supplements, and in severe cases medicines.
Eating right to help control acne
By eating the right kind of foods on a consistent basis you can lessen the severity of the outbreaks. Here is a list of foods you should eat to help control acne:
- Use olive oil for cooking ect. stay away from saturated fats and partially hydrogenated fats.
- Eat non-fat or low-fat dairy products.
- Eat adequate quantities of protein in your diet.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruits.
- Potatoes (leave the skin on.)
- Include lots of vegetables in your diet everyday.
- Eat foods rich in fiber to help the body cleanse itself.
- Whole foods-as opposed to highly processed foods (cut out the Twinkies altogether!)
- All types of juices (again cut out soft drinks too!)
- Fish and chicken (with the fat trimmed off) are good sources of protein.
- Water-Water-Water drink plenty of water everyday (about eight glasses.)
While eating right won’t cure your acne, it certainly will help control outbreaks and lessen their severity. Eating better can help in other areas of your life (amount of sleep you get, weight, stress level, ect.) which in turn will contribute to clearer skin, and a happier disposition in general.
Things You Should Avoid Eating
- Saturated fats, and partially hydrogenated fats, butter, animal fats (most any fat that is a solid at room temperature.)
- Processed foods (read the label most contain things on the “don’t eat” list.)
- Sugars, regardless of the source, cane, corn, ect. (most processed foods contain copious quantities.)
- Soda and or soft drinks
- Artificial sweeteners
- High fat dairy products
- White flour, white rice, white sugar, ect. (you get the idea.)
- Meats that are high in fats such as pork, beef, lamb, ect.
- Nuts and avocados should be avoided.
- Iodine rich foods such as liver (that should be an easy one) iodized salt, crab, clams, and other shell fish.
- Chocolate (I know I love chocolate too.)
- Alcohol
- Limit the number of eggs in your diet to a few a week.
- Pastas (for sure if made with refined flours.)
- Excessive amounts of protean no matter what the source.
- Excessive amounts of carbohydrates again no matter what their source.
Nutritional Supplements
- Beta-carotene Take 25,000 units twice a day (make sure you take beta-carotene which is vitamin A derived from a plant source, with a low toxicity, as opposed to vitamin A from an animal source (not recommended.)
- Zinc Take 15 mg of zinc in combination wit 5 mg of copper.
- Omega-3 fatty acids Take 3 1,500 mg capsules of concentrated fish oil every day.
- Pantothenic acid This is a water soluble B vitamin and you can take 1000 mg per day.
- Vitamin E Take 400 mg per day.
- Flaxseed oil Take 3000 mg per day.
Keep in mind again, no pill or supplement is going to magically make your acne disappear, they can however be a step in the right direction though, one piece of the puzzle, if you will. It’s also a good idea to consult your doctor before beginning any vitamin and/or supplement regimen.
Other Things To Do That Can Help Get Rid Of Your Acne
- Keep the affected areas clean Try to keep the affected areas clean of dirt and oil at all times. Steaming for 15 min daily could help. Wash gently (never scrub hard as you can do more harm than good!) with an acne soap. Avoid wearing make-up, but if you must use “noncomedogenic” make-up. Keep hair spray from getting on your skin. Wash your pillow case every other day. Keep your hair off the affected areas. Exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells.
- Don’t squeeze hard or “pop” your zits Squeezing your pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads can cause damage under your skin by forcing the infection through the layers of skin. Don’t do it! If you must get the pus out of a whitehead (I always did-yukk) use a sterile needle to lance the whitehead first, and gently squeeze the pus out. Be sure to wash the area gently and thoroughly afterward.
- Reduce the stress in your life Stress probably has more to do with your acne flareups than you realize. So try to reduce your stress level, learn to relax more. Cut out caffeine and any other stimulants. Exercising regularly helps to reduce stress. Google “stress relief” and put the techniques into practice!

Hi Jerry,
Great site! I like the advice you provide here, especially regarding acne (which is never really curable, but certainly preventable!). I’m going to look over this site a bit, get some ideas for my own use. I’m definitely into natural home remedies for ailments, and believe that drugs only mask the health problem instead of solving them. Thanks again!
Hi Hally,

Wow! What a blog. You have a real knack for making a blog readable and easy on the eyes. Some sites look like train wrecks, but not this site – it’s a pleasure to read. I am always interested in reading other sites about alcoholism, they give me a lot to think about. I don’t have time to read all the articles right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Yahoo, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see what’s new. I really appreciate you having this site. As someone who has struggled with an addiction myself, I have started a site devoted to resources about it. Please bookmark my site at http://www.qvof.com when you have a few minutes. Have a good week!
Thanks for putting up this article. I’m unquestionably frustrated with struggling to search out relevant and rational commentary on this matter. Everybody now goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either: everyone else in the planet is wrong, or two that everyone but them does not really understand the situation. Many thanks for your concise, pertinent insight.
very precise and to the point blog post on a very informative subject.
Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
Just found your blog while searching Yahoo.
Saw your Blog bookmarked on Reddit.I love your site and marketing strategy.
When I was younger I had a terrible problem with acne. It caused me to have such low self esteem for a long time
I am shocked to be writing a comment on any post, but this one was so easy to read and right on with your points, I had to write! You should be writer of the year with this one!
I know wootwoot I was the same way. Fortunately time (getting older) is a great acne healer.
